Today\u2019s tip may not apply to everyone, but if you\u2019re in a city that people often travel to and the most obvious examples in the US would be New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Orlando, places like that. Then you have a unique opportunity to keep an eye out for people who are going to be visiting and offering to create unique experiences for them. For me, this is happening more and more often here in Austin. The week after next the SiriusDecisions conference is here and a number of my clients will be coming to town as well as people that I\u2019ve gotten to know over the years I\u2019ve spent in the marketing technology space. There\u2019s also a little podcasters conference coming up in a few weeks as well. What prompted this tip is that I just sent a note to somebody who I know will be speaking at one of those conferences. We\u2019ve traded emails a couple of times, but we\u2019ve never spoken and never met. I simply mentioned that I knew they were coming to town and offered to be their personal uber drive and pick them up from the airport and offered to recommend some great places to eat or things to do since I don\u2019t think they\u2019ve been here before. For SiriusDecisions I\u2019m thinking about grabbing a table at a fun restaurant or bar within walking distance of the conference for a few hours and suggesting that people stop by to say &#8220;Hi&#8221; meet some of my other clients and friends. None of this is a ton of effort. It\u2019s just taking advantage of a situation. When people are traveling to a new city they\u2019re excited and often looking forward to the experience. Even if you don\u2019t get a chance to connect with them you made a meaningful connection, showed that you\u2019re human and they\u2019ll probably think of you more highly. You can insert a lot of your own personality as well. I doubt he does it any more after their latest $70M funding round this week, but in the super early days of SalesLoft, their CEO Kyle Porter would offer to pick people up from the Atlanta airport in a McLarren. He even extended that offer to me. I don\u2019t know why, but like I said it was the very, very early days of the company. Kyle is a huge car guy and that offer totally connects with his brand and you know what. Every time I go to Atlanta I think about Kyle and about SalesLoft. So think about that for yourself. Can you keep an eye out for people coming to your city and offer to give them a uniquely local taste, experience, and perspective.
