Today\u2019s tip comes from Marc McDougall. Marc is a B2B Conversion Specialist out of Atlanta who helps B2B SAAS companies to land more demos by making their website convert more traffic. Here he is:<\/p>\n<p>Marc McDougall: You&#8217;re stuck at home and your pages because of the coronavirus quarantine. And your boss has asked you to send out a whole bunch of cold e-mails to try and drum up new business over the next couple of weeks. But you&#8217;ve been sending e-mails and you&#8217;re finding that no one&#8217;s opening them and certainly no one&#8217;s replying.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been sending e-mails for a really long time and I&#8217;ve learned what works to get people to open and actually reply to e-mails is a little bit gimmicky but it works for me.<\/p>\n<p>First, you need to make sure you&#8217;re differentiating yourself from the masses that are sending e-mails to these people. If you&#8217;re like me you&#8217;re probably emailing folks in the C Suite at VPN marketing CMO shows. Sometimes the CEO directly and these guys are getting bombarded with a cold that reach every day hundreds sometimes thousands of emails.<\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re not doing something in your subject or with the approach of your email that&#8217;s going to set you apart from the pack. You&#8217;re kind of losing and it doesn&#8217;t have to be some super serious business win for them it can just be something delightful and funny. I&#8217;m specifically sending people pictures of squirrels in their e-mail inbox these days and it&#8217;s just a series of e-mails of me trying to get this annoying squirrel out of my attic that&#8217;s sitting in there and knowing me during quarantine. And in the email signature I&#8217;ve just got a simple call, calls action like hey book 15 mess with me if you want a bit more demos. But that&#8217;s not the bulk of the e-mail. The bulk of the e-mail is just trying to make people smile. Especially nowadays with all the doom and gloom around us. If you can be the one person that makes the recipient smile and think of something happy for a moment you&#8217;re going gonna be the kind of person they&#8217;re gonna want to talk to.<\/p>\n<p>So how do you come up with an email like this? I&#8217;ve found that you don&#8217;t really come up with delightful fun unique e-mails that make an impact by opening Gmail and just staring at your Draft folder. I find that they come to me generally when I&#8217;m just going about the world doing my own thing. Sometimes I&#8217;m out running around doing a lap around the park or something and suddenly I just see something like a squirrel and I&#8217;m like \u201cOh that would maybe make a good email\u201d or something silly happens to you in the world. And I just write it down and that becomes the source for my next e-mail.<\/p>\n<p>So a challenge for you is to think about how you can package something funny that happens to you in the world into an email the next time it does happen and then give it a shot try something funny.
