This is the 500th episode of the podcast, and that has me thinking about milestones. On one hand, I think it\u2019s important that we stop and celebrate our milestones, and I\u2019m certainly proud of having produced 500 episodes of this show without having missed a single day. On the other hand, milestones like this are fairly arbitrary. Other than the number there\u2019s nothing very different about this episode compared to any other episode. It\u2019s just another Tuesday. That goes for when we choose to start things and the things we decide to celebrate along the way. Yesterday was June 1st, it also happened to be a Monday. That felt like as good a day as any to kick off a bit of a personal project that my daughters and I have been working towards. We\u2019re calling it the family fitness challenge. It actually started with my youngest daughter challenging me to get a six-pack by the end of the year after I\u2019d shared that I was about halfway to gaining the Covid 19 (credit to Jeff Bajorek for that one), as we were on one of our weekends walks together. First I\u2019m not sure that\u2019s even possible for me, but I told her that there was no way I\u2019d be able to do that myself without the entire family on board and supporting me in the effort. That conversation quickly got very productive as we talked about how we could all join in, do meal planning and preparation together. Organize our training schedules, and the timing for us was really good as my oldest daughter needs to start training for cross country in the fall anyway, and I need to get into a more structured triathlon training program for a race in late August. So the family fitness challenge was born. I guess the point of this story is that there\u2019s really nothing that dictates when you should start something. Sure you can begin on the first of the month or the start of the quarter or next Monday, but why not today? This show started on January 20th, 2019. On a random Sunday, and here we are 500 episodes later. So it doesn\u2019t really matter when you start. You also get to decide what you\u2019re going to celebrate. Are you going to celebrate the results or the process? Personally I like to try to celebrate the inputs. The consistent actions. Like I said, I\u2019m most proud of never having missed a day on the road to 500. Certainly, there have been some amazing outcomes and other rewards, but I try to stay focused on the things that I can directly control. What do you need to start? Today\u2019s as good a day as any to get going.<\/p>\n<p>Now, would you do one thing for me to help me celebrate this milestone and to show your appreciation for this content? I really don\u2019t ask for much. In fact, I\u2019ve intentionally decided not to accept any advertising on this show. Because of the short format, even a 30-second ad as part of a 5-minute episode would be 20% and that just seems like too much, so this effort is entirely self-funded.
