Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Kristen Twining. Kristen leads Inside Sales at FireMon, where she works with her team to help customers achieve visibility, automation, and compliance across their heterogeneous networks. Here she is:<\/p>\n
Kristen Twining: Hey everyone. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to share my tip with you today. This tip is something I learned really early on in my career, and it is so fundamental, yet extremely powerful. So let’s get to it. It’s simple. Show up and follow up. We’re in sales and we’re constantly in front of our customers. It’s just what we do, but it’s how we show up that can truly differentiate us and show our customers that we care and we’re hungry enough to win their business.<\/p>\n
Get in front of your customers and prospects and stay in front of them. Be unique, creative, and stand above the crowd. Engage and interact with your customers and prospects through things like social media, for example, post things that are relevant, comment on their posts and be thoughtful and intentional in how you present yourself. Some ways to do this is make sure that you prepare for the meeting, set the agenda ahead of time so that you have the agreed-upon topics as well as you know that you’re going to meet the expectations of the customer.<\/p>\n
Do your research. It is so important to personalize the content in the discussion that you’re going to provide and have with your customer or prospect. And hey, dress the part. Look, I know we’re not all face to face right now, but we can still dress the part on Zoom and put on our best smile and put on our best outfit and show our customer that we’re ready to win their business.<\/p>\n
Next is follow-up. This is so incredibly important and something I really think we could all use a little refresher on. I’m a big believer in following up no more than 24 hours after the discussion or the major interaction occurred. Thank the customer and highlight the agreed-upon next steps as well as outlining the discussion. Many of us refer to this as a mutual plan. One of the things that can be really cool here, too, is leveraging video. Sometimes you have a meeting and not everybody can attend that meeting from the customer or prospect. By using something like video, you have the opportunity to record yourself following up, maybe highlighting some key content as well as the agreed-upon next steps, and bringing everyone up to speed so nobody misses out.<\/p>\n
