Today I just wanted to share some thoughts on technology and AI and where things are headed.<\/p>\n<p>One of the things I\u2019ve been surprised by in all of my interviews with top performers on the Sales Success Stories podcast is that the vast majority use very little tech. In fact, the typical core tech stack consists of email, calendar, LinkedIn and oftentimes a notebook!<\/p>\n<p>I had assumed it would be the opposite. I thought the top reps would have figured out some magical ways to harness technology to get some leverage.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, I think most are actively avoiding the distraction that technology often provides and instead are maintaining maniacal focus on doing the things that really matter to build pipeline and advance their deals. But I\u2019ve been in tech my entire career and the giant leap we\u2019ve all seen with ChatGPT has really got me thinking.<\/p>\n<p>My core thought is this.<\/p>\n<p>Human growth and improvement is incremental, while technology improvement is exponential. You are on an amazing trajectory if you can improve yourself 5-10% per year, but Moore\u2019s law tells us that technology improvements double about every 2 years. Imagine what this means from an AI perspective for a tool like ChatGPT and also consider just how much energy and investment the biggest tech companies like Google, Microsoft and Apple are putting into these capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Just a couple of years ago I would often refer to my Alexa experience to show how big the tech-to-human gap was. I found myself asking Alexa for the same types of things on a near-daily basis and 30 or 40% of the time it got it wrong, so I wasn\u2019t worried. Fast forward to today and we\u2019ve got ChatGPT and its capabilities and they\u2019re going to get a lot better a lot faster going forward.<\/p>\n<p>So what does that mean for us as sales professionals?<\/p>\n<p>I think it means that you\u2019ve got to at least stay aware. Watch what\u2019s happening. Keep listening to these tips as I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll be sharing examples of real-world applications that are winning and don\u2019t be afraid to do a little bit of experimenting. We\u2019re quickly getting to the point where you\u2019re not going to be able to ignore and avoid this stuff. Maintain your focus, but I don\u2019t think the point where the very best sellers are those who best leverage technology to amplify their humanity and their results is very far away.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d love to hear your thoughts on this.
