Scott Ingram: You\u2019re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I\u2019m your host, Scott Ingram. Today\u2019s tip features both Jacquelyn Nicholson and Mike Simmons in tip #2 of their join tip tradition that they started after last year\u2019s Summit. Here they are:<\/p>\n

Mike Simmons: We’re not going to talk about that, Jacquelyn. We’re going to talk about leadership. If you’re looking for leadership, looking for leadership in your organization, start with a mirror. When you hear me say that out loud, what do you think?<\/p>\n

Jacquelyn Nicholson: Yes. Well, so my coach, Riv, just talked about this last week. There was a video, he calls it the mirror test. He says, are you the leader somebody wants to follow? Because first leadership is leadership of self, then leadership of your team, and then leadership of your business. And if you can’t look yourself in the mirror and say, I’m the leader that someone will want to follow, don’t be surprised when people don’t follow you or people leave or people are not motivated, they’re not inspired. You have to be the leader that people want to follow. You have to be with somebody invest in me. Would somebody take a chance on me? And if you’re not that leader that you look yourself in the mirror and you say, I’m exhibiting the qualities that matter. I’m the leader somebody would want to follow, it’s not going to work. The mirror test is very critical, I think, and you’ve got to be, for me, it’s being the person who is gracious, who is honest, and who’s a good listener. It’s somebody who’s authentic, and it’s somebody who’s inspiring and a role model.<\/p>\n

Mike Simmons: Yeah. Those are values and characteristics that are important to you. On my side, what I like to think about are tools. What are the tools that you have? What tools do you use to be a better leader? How do you get better at problem-solving and decision-making? How do you get better at communication? How do you get better at goal setting and execution? What are your systems and processes that you put in place to improve effectiveness? There are two ways to look at this: system and process and tools and values, characteristics, state of being.<\/p>\n

Jacquelyn Nicholson: Yeah. Taking the values and those characteristics and behavior that exhibits, those putting it into action in the right systems and process is, I think, the golden ticket, if you will. It’s a recipe for success, for sure.<\/p>\n

Mike Simmons: Yeah, it’s where the magic happens.<\/p>\n
