Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today Dale Dupree, the leader of the Sales Rebellion is back with another killer tip. Here he is:
Dale Dupree: This might go a little bit deeper than some of you all want it to, but it’s important that you’re hearing. This tip is all about accountability and I’m not just talking about accountability to your number, I’m talking about accountability to who you are on a daily basis when it comes to your sales walk, but also your personal life. See, a lot of times we tend to allow our manager to hold us accountable. And typically the accountability there is strictly based on KPIs, numbers, activities, results. And while results are extremely important and of course KPIs and anything else that are put in place as a cadence or as a standard to help you be more successful in your walk are also important that there is no real true accountability to who you are and why you can’t get these things done outside of just encouraging you to push harder, work harder, and do more. Right?
So what I’m talking about is the accountability with people that you can just talk to. People that are friends, people that are family members, not necessarily people that are colleagues, but people outside of that work-life. See, one of the things that we do really well is when we get into our role at work, we tend to not share too much information outside of it. Me, I like to blur the line. What happens at work does not stay at work. It gets professed during my personal walk. It gets professed during the time that I have alone with my wife or I can speak to her candidly about things I’m struggling with issues I need guidance on. Things I need help with. I have accountability with mentors and coaches alike. I have accountability with people inside of my business just the same as well too. But again, on more of a personal level and what I mean by that is I don’t talk to them about the numbers I’m trying to hit. Those things are important. Again, don’t get me wrong. I talked to them about how hard it was for me to wake up this morning or something that’s lacking in my life when it comes to motivation or drive. Something deeper in some instances when it comes to what’s keeping me going, what am I struggling with? What darkness is consuming me this week and how can I get out of it? You see, one of the things that we tend to fall back on when it comes to business is our performance. We tend to just say, put your head down, run 90 miles an hour, and you’ll get it done. When really, we should be taking a step back and analyzing things in our personal life. Things that make us who we are. You see because when work starts at 8:00 AM, your life doesn’t stop.
