Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Every now and then I try to bring you the best of LinkedIn and with Sarah Brazier’s permission that’s exactly what I’ve got for you today. Now, this is a little bit visual, so you may want to click over to DailySales.Tips/569 for a link to the post and the video, but I’ve been waiting for somebody to figure out how to use Cameo as a prospecting tool. Here’s what Sarah said in her post:
Remember Isaiah Mustafa?
He was a wide receiver for the NFL & also the actor from the Old Spice commercials.
Ya know, “The man your man could smell like.”
Yah.
I found him on Cameo*. (Sarah notes here that she can’t take credit for the idea to use Cameo, it’s something the team at Gong came up with) She continues:
Wanted him to make a spoof of the Old Spice commercial, but for Gong.
“The rep your rep could sell like.”
Well, he couldn’t do that.
‘Cause… rules.
But, turns out somewhere between NFL-ing and Acting he was selling.
So, I was like, “perfecto.”
And asked him to make a Cameo for one of my prospects, Plixer.
Here’s the resulting Cameo, and spoiler alert. She scheduled the meeting:
Isaiah Mustafa: Plixer sales team. What’s going on. It’s Isaiah Mustafa. How you doing? I got a little story to tell you. So buckle up. First of all, we all know sales is everything right? And it’s all about your technique. What kind of swag you have, right? Like how well can you work the customer? How good are you at finding a lead and turning it into something. Right? Well, when I worked sales, I worked in an office. We sold equipment and you know, they put you on somebody’s desk as, their junior. While I was the last junior salesperson to leave their mentor’s desk. Because I was horrible. I was the worst salesperson in the office. I mean, you know, there was guys like West Bentley who sat right in front of me. There was Steve Gaus who had the corner office. There was Steve Truk, who was right next to me. He was killing it, slaying in equipment sales. There was a Scottie Lichtenstein. That was, that was over on the right kind of in the back and called him Scotty Lick because he was just destroying sales, but all of them had a great technique, but, and I watched them and I didn’t, but I just didn’t know. I was like, how are they doing it? How are they doing what I just can’t see? And I knew I had a good mouthpiece piece on me. I knew I could talk to people. I knew I could tell people about the product, but what was I doing that wasn’t enough? What were they doing that was just slaying the game. I didn’t know. That’s because I didn’t have Gong.
Now, this is back in 2007 and Gong didn’t exist. Maybe it did. I don’t know. I wasn’t told that information. Anyway, the fact is Gong exists now. And if you want to use Gong, let me tell you you’re doing yourself a favor. Instead of being one of those guys, it’s all locked up. One of those where they call them the cloffice? The closet-office, not knowing what’s going to do. Cause that’s what they did to me. They put me in the worst desk in the office to try to motivate me. What’d that do made me quit. I quit and became an actor and we all know how that turned out. Don’t we?
Anyway, my point is don’t be like me. Don’t be shirtless on a horse. You know, get into sales, get into Gong, you know, be the super Dale Carnegie, the Zig Ziglar, the David Sandler fused into one. You know what I mean, be the Michael Jordan, because Gong is like the game tape that you need to succeed. All right.
So get out there, download it. However, you get it. I don’t know. They didn’t tell me, but get it and become the salesperson of the millennia. That’s right I said it, of the millennials. Maybe I should get Gong. Maybe I might, you know what? I might go back into sales. Now, the Gongs around, you know what I mean? You know, flip the script a little bit, do something a little different, you know what I’m saying? Maybe I could go back into sales and use this voice. What do you think? Use Gong. Do yourself a favor. I’m out!
Scott Ingram: Now you’re definitely going to want to click over to DailySales.Tips/569 there you’ll find a link to Sarah’s original post and the video, and I’ve also included links to 3 of the most popular Isaiah Mustafa Old Spice commercials. It’s up to you not to go down a YouTube rabbit hold discovering a whole bunch of others you didn’t know existed.
Once you’ve recovered from that bit of distraction. Be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening!
