Melinda Van Fleet: Recognizing your wins to help you build more confidence. Having confidence, building confidence, leveling up your confidence, any way you slice it, having confidence is crucial to living the life you desire. And I a hundred percent confident every day. No, but I like to develop and use tools that have helped me become more confident. And I like it when they are interchangeable between my personal life and my business. If you are in balance between the two aspects, happiness occurs and shifts start to happen. A tip I use and coach on is to always have a personal success story in your back pocket or top of mine to revert back to.
In other words, a story to remember a success story you are proud of that may have been initially a challenging situation, but it ended up working out in your favor. Often we run on autopilot and focused too much time, energy, and thought to challenges versus a positive solution. And this can easily put you in a negative spin. For example, if you’re trying to land a new client and it’s been a challenge and the challenge could be anything from them, not returning your phone calls or emails, the negotiations not going in the direction of your company, or are they flat out, said no, try to focus on a win from the past. That was in your favor and continue to take forward action in your business. When this happens to me as it has, and it still does. Instead of being frustrated, I shift my mindset and happily think of all the client relationships that I’ve built over the year and I keep going, but I keep a side note on the client who’s turned me down.
If you do something like this as time passes, you will marvel at how many of those names become people you end up working with and have incredible relationships. The challenging situations don’t crush my confidence because I put it aside and focus on another win and keep going. And what is amazing is the eventual wins, help build my confidence even further. One step then another step. Keep focused on wins versus being discouraged about challenges.
On a personal level, this could go towards a desire you have. For example, you wish to move into your dream house, but you just don’t see how that’s possible instead of focusing on the how and why it hasn’t happened. Remind yourself of something which did happen, which at the time you thought was impossible. Keep that positive memory in your bank of thoughts to think of versus thinking about what hasn’t happened yet, keeping this simple, but not always easy tip to remember handy will help you build confidence over time that anything is achievable when you set your mind to it.
Final thought. Recognize when you need some help with your confidence level. Remember this tip and use it. Create some sticky notes, if you need a reminder or grab an accountability partner or a coach, and if you can use your spouse or partner that could help as well. Here’s some more confidence and positive things coming your way.
