Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Jen E Miller. With over 20 years in sales, sales training, and sales leadership roles, Jen specializes in helping sales teams exceed their goals. From individual coaching to creating and building sales culture – Jen works closely with those who are already good…to motivate them to want to be even better. Here she is:
Jen E Miller: A short note on note-taking. I’ve long advocated for old fashioned note taking pen to paper in almost all business scenarios. As it turns out I might’ve been onto something. According to research done at Princeton University. Taking notes by hand might actually improve comprehension. Every year during meetings, workshops, training, seminars, and conferences. And most recently, during a lot of zoom calls, I am frequently asked and often offer commentary about taking handwritten notes. My 2 sense about note-taking.
Number one, taking notes during a conversation can show respect for the one sharing something with you. Number two, many sales professionals comment that their listening skills are sharpened when they commit to taking comprehensive notes. Number three, jotting down ideas during creative moments, help you keep track of all of those great thoughts. And number four, always being at the ready with pen and paper shows you are prepared for anything that might come up.
Acquiring the habit of note-taking is a wonderfully complementary skill to that of listening – Richard Branson. And until next time. Good selling.
