Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips Podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from David Weiss. David is the CRO of the Sales Collective and founder of DealDoc. Here he is.
David Weiss: What is up Sales Society? This is David Weiss coming at you with a tip of the day. So, you know, very early on in my career, I had a mentor say to me, David, would you rather be uncomfortable for a split second or for the rest of your deal? And this was in reference to a sales meeting that I had that he joined me in, and he noticed that at one point in the meeting, I didn’t ask a question. He could kind of see it on the tip of my tongue, but I didn’t ask it. And I didn’t ask it because I was scared. I was scared to know the answer. I was scared on how the client would feel if I asked it. And it was very much related to their buying cycle and their desire to purchase now and things like that. And so after the meeting, as me and this leader would often do, we talked about the whole meeting and what went well and areas of opportunity.
And he called me on that area, and I. And I explained, you know, my hesitation. And he then said, David, would you rather be uncomfortable for a split second while you’re asking that question or for the rest of your deal now that you don’t know the answer? And that was a big aha moment. So one of my tips for you right now is, are you hesitating when you get that gut feeling, when you’ve got that intuition, when you have that inclination that you should just really ask one more question or peel in the onion on what they said? And fear is holding you back. Discomfort is holding you back. I want you to challenge that thought and ask anyways, because again, I’m gonna go back. Do you want to be uncomfortable just for that amount of time or. Or for the rest of the time that you’re working on this opportunity or with this person that you didn’t address the thing that you should have addressed when you had the opportunity to address it.
