Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today Meshell Baker is back with another tip. Here she is:
Meshell Baker: Hello sellers, welcome to today’s tip. Sellers who play more, slay more. Yes, I use the words play and slay. So let’s have some fun.
I want you to begin thinking about how you do your every day. How you are hyper visually focused on accomplishing and achieving your goals. How you are going to meet that quota for the day, for the month, for the quarter, for the year. How are you going to triple, double whatever that standard or whatever that goal that you’re striving and driving towards. How can you do that in a more fun and enjoyable manner?
You see every day, you set the standard of excelling and you set that standard without joy and fun, you become a joyless person. And research data shows that clients and colleagues actually enjoy being around people who are having fun at the work they’re doing. And more and more we have enough chaos and constant change going on in the world. So in the workplace, people are looking for people who can bring some enthusiasm to the workplace. And when you become one of those people, opportunity will gravitate towards you a lot faster and a lot more.
So having said that, let me break down PLAY. Positive, Levity, Abundant and Youthful.
So finding positive ways to communicate difficult and challenging situations, circumstances, setbacks, failure, whatever is powerful. Too often people are complaining about what didn’t go right, what didn’t go the way they wanted to, but someone else didn’t do versus acknowledging it didn’t go as planned. And this is how we can still make it work. That is a powerful and positive way that will elicit the excitement of the other person on the end of that conversation, personal or person to want to work with you and to want you on board.
Levity. Stop taking it so seriously. It’s not the end of the world. This too shall pass. Look at what you can learn from it and move forward. It is not soul-crushing. You are not like somebody who is not a great person just because you made a mistake or miscommunicated or made a misstep. Let it go. The levity is to just move away as much as possible and focus on what you can create. You cannot change the past and far too many people spend too much time believing what didn’t happen or should have happened versus understanding that it’s just an experience to learn from and move forward.
And abundant, there is enough to go around. So often people are holding on and clinging to their knowledge and the information and the opportunity. Because if I do this for someone, what about me? Understand when you establish the habit and standard that thoughts become things and everybody is thinking. We all can create whatever we want. And the minute you start giving fully and freely, you will actually start to acquire more.
Youthfulness. Children don’t think they can’t. Can’t its condition in our upbringing. So start to allow yourself to be creative and go wild with your imagination just as you would as a child and you’ll be amazed with the solutions you will be able to acquire for yourself, for your colleagues, for your clients it will be absolutely amazing.
So again, PLAY, Positive, Levity, Abundant and Youthful will help you to SLAY which is Successfully Listen Acquiring Yeses.
Remember your goal is to get people to say yes to you, to the opportunity to work with you because you are a solution and no doesn’t mean not never. It just means not now. Listen with your eyes. Be fully focused. Be aware of the body language of yourself and your buyer. Listening for opportunities to engage them. Ask more questions, not to insert your product and service.
Take notes. I often ask, is it okay if I take notes because I want to be able to respond accordingly and the information you’re giving me is incredible. Some people use AI for transcriptions during calls. Whatever understand you’re not going to remember everything so ask for permission take notes, ask for feedback, ask confirming questions, seek to understand not to be understood, if you want them to know that you actually care about what they’re telling you and how you can come in and be support.
So remember, Play to Slay and you will get more sales. You’ll get those sales you’re looking for, those clients you want and you’ll have so much more fun in the process. Have a great day selling.
