Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today we’re officially celebrating International Women’s Day with Heidi Solomon-Orlick. Heidi is Founder and CEO of GirlzWhoSell a company committed to closing the gender gap in B2B sales and building the largest pipeline of diverse, early-stage female career talent. GirlzWhoSell offers training, mentoring, experiential learning opportunities, and career placement for college-aged women interested in a professional sales career. Here she is:
Heidi Solomon-Orlick: I founded GirlzWhoSell with the mission of democratizing professional sales and to build the largest pipeline of early-stage female sales talent. Through training, mentoring, hands-on experiential learning, and career placement. We are starting to get some serious traction. And what better way to inspire the next generation of sales professionals than to launch a book that amplifies the voices of a diverse group of female sales leaders from around the world who are at the top of their game.
Heels to Deals: How Women Are Dominating in B2B Sales features 33 female sales leaders who share their stories. They write about their sales journeys. They dispel myths around the sales profession and provide actionable advice for young women who are considering sales as a career choice. My chapter, Becoming is a Journey, talks about how our collective life experiences are what shapes us. I discuss whether sales people are born or made, or perhaps they are raised. It is in life’s pivotal moments that we discover our true self.
This book is the start of closing the gender gap, but we have such a long way to go. So how do we make it happen? It is going to take intentionality, it’s going to take leadership, and it’s going to take time. We need to continue to share success stories. We need to focus on representation because a young woman cannot be what she cannot see. We tackle the toxic bro culture that is alive and well in corporate America today so that women feel safe to enter into the profession. We assure pay equity across all races and genders. We encourage women to apply for jobs even if they don’t meet 100% of the job qualifications. And once they are employed, we support them with training and mentorship and offer a clear career path so that they can succeed.
It is a proven fact that female sales leaders hire other women. So the more women we promote, the more women we will have in the pipeline. This is the only way we are going to solve for this worldwide problem. Please join the movement today.
