Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tips come from the GREAT Meshell Baker. Here she is with a quick dose of Monday motivation:
Meshell Baker: Hello and welcome to today’s Daily Sales Tip. What Makes a GREAT Seller? G-R-E-A-T, GREAT Seller.
So G is that they often are Grateful for the growth. You see, sales is not easy. If it was easy, everyone would do it. You’re often met with the unplanned, the unexpected. You’re put in situations in front of buyers and managers, colleagues, clients where you feel uncomfortable. It’s an inconvenience because things don’t go as planned. And the GREAT Seller actually are grateful because this is an opportunity to grow their belief in their capacity to sell, no matter what.
The other thing is R, they rave about the Relationships when you were on a great seller, they’re rarely complaining that clients are not great or something is wrong with them or about their colleagues. They look for the best in everything and they are absolutely clear on who their ideal buyer and client is. And they actually have more of those on their roster. And they gravitate to the watering holes into the places to build a pipeline where they get to do business with people, where they rave about their clients and their clients become their raving fans. And if you know anything about raving fan clients, they generate repeat business referrals and recommendations.
E, they are Enthusiastically delivering the extra and the difference between someone who is ordinary and extraordinary is just a little extra. It’s the willingness to instead of deciding that that person doesn’t deserve, you actually decide that you are here to serve greatness and that’s what you give to everyone you come in contact with because that’s how you seed and nurture a pipeline and a network of incredible opportunities to do business, generate income, and grow your career.
They are Attentive to the details because when you’re attentive to the details, you are ready to adapt in the midst of circumstances. Again, sales is not easy. It is a difficult emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically challenging jobs at times. You are always being faced with the unexpected, the unplanned, your inconvenience. you’re uncertain, you’re uncomfortable. All of these things are happening. And they happen when you have a regular job where you go up and show every day, day after day but when you’re in sales, every day is different. Every client is different. Every sale is different. Every manager is different. It is a challenge to adapt. But when you’re attentive to the details and you make sense of the little things, the big things will find their place. And you’ll be flexible and adaptable and encouraged to grow in spite of the things that appear to the outside world not to go well. And you are a great seller, you actually embrace them and move forward.
And then the T, they improve, they Trust their gut. The one thing I know to be true is that when you try to sell the way everyone else tells you to sell, you will fail. You may succeed at some point, but the failure will be inside of you. Trusting your gut and doing and selling and connecting and serving your clients in a way that is true to yourself. You will shine like you’ve never shined before. It brings an ease and a joy to the daily grind of what a seller is required to do.
So when people ask me why I love sales, well, it’s that it’s. You get to engage and you get to generate and adapt. You get to be grateful to grow. You have these relationships that are incredible. You are enthusiastic about the little extras on a daily basis. The attentiveness allows you to become flexible and adaptable in the circumstances and situation and then that trusting of self. The true self shines brighter than ever which makes generating more business, more clients, more opportunities actually becomes easeful and effortless.
So again, if you’re a GREAT Seller, absolutely share some of the other things that were not mentioned, and have a great day selling.
