Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Well, as you’ve probably already noticed, the streak has finally ended. Until the middle of June, I was able to say that we’d released a new sales tip every single day for over 1200 days in a row without missing a day. Sadly, life conspired to take me down and give me the opportunity to start a brand new streak.
It’s really been an insane couple of months and I probably shouldn’t be surprised. We bought a house in April and started a pretty significant renovation, while also working to sell our previous home, which is now done. Then we took off for a family vacation and spent a week in Maui. I’d planned for all of that and even gave myself an extra couple of days to get resettled and get the tips going again. What I hadn’t counted on was a 10-day bout with Covid. That’s what ultimately took me out.
So after things stretched out with that for a while and knowing that I’d be out again for a few days to celebrate my wife’s birthday and that would be followed by the long 4th of July weekend. I ultimately decided to turn it into an actual break and that’s why you haven’t gotten a new sales tip in 2 and a half weeks.
The good news is, a new streak begins, and it’s pretty easy to turn this into a tip because in sales you’re going to get thrown off of your game. Your own streak of consistent performance might come to an end, you might miss a month or a quarter. The trick is to evaluate where you are, set some new goals, put together a plan, and get right back to it.
In the case of this podcast, I want to see if I can beat my 3.4-year streak and get past 2500 tips without another gap. I’m also doing a big reset with a bunch of other things because it wasn’t just this show that got thrown off. Fortunately, I’m already ahead of my year-to-date number in my day job, but I’m behind where I’d like to be, so new plan, new goals, new approach. That, and we’ve got the Sales Success Summit and SalesTechEX coming up in just over 3 months here in Austin in mid-October.
So, lots to work on, but that’s the way I like it. It’s time to get back out there and make it all happen, and thanks to all of you who reached out while I was away. It means a lot to know how important this show is to you and the consistency is important for both of us. There’s lots more to come. I’m not even close to done. Thanks for listening and be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip!
