Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Jacquelyn Nicholson. Jacquelyn has 3 decades building/supporting the best brands in the world and growing businesses in new markets from scratch, she is passionate about being the woman her husband would marry again, the mom her kids are proud of, and the person her boss or customer would work with again. Here she is:
Jacquelyn Nicholson: I’ve been thinking a lot about fulfillment and where we get our joy and our sense of accomplishment from, and I think a lot of us in the sales community get that from closing deals, from winning, from achieving quotas and making President’s Club. But I’d submit to you that I think there’s a better way to think about it.
I don’t believe that a sense of fulfillment and success should be tied to things that are sometimes out of our control. I would actually say to you that I think a better definition of success is around the person that you show up to be each and every day.
So as you think about how you’re going to define success for the coming month, the coming quarter, the coming year. Try and look at it a different way if you’ve never done this before. Think about it in terms of who is the person that I wanna be. I wanna show up as a person who’s authentic, who’s a real servant leader. That’s how I like to think about it, and I am successful.
I’ve said to this community many times, if you’ve heard me before, that my success is defined as if I’m the woman that my husband would marry all over again, if I’m the person that my children are proud to introduce to their friends, or if I’m the person that my customer would do business with again, or if my boss would hire me again.
And those things are all within my control because it’s about the person that I show up to be. Am I a leader? Am I a good listener? Am I a role model? Am I a mentor? Am I a person that shows up as those things on a day-to-day basis, that’s completely within my control.
And so as you think about your success and your metrics, think about adding this to your list as showing up as the person that you aspire to be each and every day cause I do believe that that will contribute in the long run to your success in terms of meeting your quota, closing those deals, and building rapport with your best customers. Thanks a lot.
