Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Amber Deibert. Amber is a Performance Coach for Enterprise sellers. She helps them create the mindset and behaviors needed for success. Here she is:
Amber Deibert: What’s up, everybody? Your friendly neighborhood performance coach, Amber Deibert here. I want to talk with you today about how to hit your goals. If you feel like you’re not hitting quota, it’s probably one of three things that is holding you back.
Number one, it may be that you don’t know the sales skills. It may be that you’re trying very hard, but you just don’t have the right techniques. In this case, it’s so helpful to listen to podcasts like this. Go find sales experts, go sign up for sales training, get yourself some techniques that will help you to learn the skills that you need. That’s going to help you really, instead of using a screwdriver to try to hammer something in, go get a hammer. Find the right tools to be able to do it. If you feel like you have the right tools, then maybe it’s one of these other things.
Number two, that could be going wrong, is that there’s just not enough action. You’re not putting in enough inputs. Sales is all about inputs and outputs. Inputs and outputs. You put in the inputs, you can expect to get the outputs. And so maybe it is that you’re not working enough. Maybe you find yourself doomed scrolling on LinkedIn and wasting your time when really all you need is just that extra motivation to go do all the work.
If you feel like you know what you’re doing, you’re putting in the work, but it’s just not sticking, then number three is that you may not be mentally optimized. Probably there are a lot of limiting beliefs that are coming up for you. And so even as you’re doing the work and it’s the right work to be doing, you’re doubting yourself the whole entire time. If this is the case for you, I have a technique. I want you to think about ways that instead of feeling like you don’t have to go from feeling super terrible to feeling super confident, you can put yourself in the neutral zone, and that will help you make a lot more progress.
So instead of thinking things like, I’m not cut out for this. Instead, you can think, I’m learning how to do this, or I’m open to believing that I’m going to be good at this, or I’m becoming the person who feels confident in these situations.
