“I hope you’ll take at least a few minutes to consider your own mental health and maybe you too would benefit by adding a professional help component to either help you break through or even to find that next year.” – Scott Ingram in today’s Tip 1562

Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. As we close out May today and our focus on Mental Health Awareness I want to give a huge shoutout and thank you to our friends at Allego for all of their incredible contributions this month from their EnableMinutes show. If you haven’t yet taken the minute to subscribe, please do us both a favor and click over to DailySales.Tips/1562 for those links.
Sharing today’s tip makes me super uncomfortable, but that’s probably why it’s worth doing. Almost 3 months ago I talked about the Defunkification process I was embarking on. If you want to listen to that for additional context you’ll find that at DailySales.Tips/1562 as well. I mentioned then that I’m generally not comfortable talking about being in a funk when I’m in a funk and here we are 3 months later and I still haven’t figured out how to fully break through. I have gotten my health and fitness stuff back on track. I’m down a solid 8 or 9 pounds and have gotten back into some consistent routines both on the Peloton and at the gym, and the best part is having my youngest daughter join me in the weight room a couple of days a week.
What I haven’t been able to fully figure out is getting back my drive and getting my productivity process back on track. You may have noticed that I’ve also gotten rather inconsistent both on this podcast and on Sales Success Stories.
While I have some ideas for finally breaking through in June, and I’ll talk about those ideas in a minute. I’ve decided it’s time to seek some professional help.
Here’s the cool thing since I just started exploring this and have my first session scheduled for Friday. There are a LOT of resources out there, especially if you have a decent healthcare plan. I found that you can get access to counseling through your EAP or Employer Assistance Program as well as through your regular health insurance.
Honestly, I’m not sure why I’ve resisted this for so long, but opening the door has shown that the resources are definitely out there. I obviously can’t vouch for it yet, because I haven’t even started, but I’d encourage you to explore it for yourself as just taking the step of seeking the help has me feeling a little bit better and that much more optimistic.
The other part of my plan is really just about leaning into the things that I know about myself. I haven’t been getting up as early in the morning as I used to. I think this was a massive ingredient for me as that uninterrupted time in the morning to get on top of my stuff is priceless and in the past has absolutely set me up for success.
So as the calendar rolls over into June there are really 3 things I’m focused on.
The first is getting up earlier. Traditionally 4:30 – 5:30 is my personal sweet spot. I’ll continue with my exercise routines, and I’m thinking of June as a bit of a sprint. It’ll give me 30 days to really focus on myself and getting my game back on before taking the first week of July off. Not that I get to go anywhere, my girls schedules are both so crazy this Summer that there’s not a time for us to take our traditional family vacation, but I’ve decided to take the full week of July 4th off, since that’s typically a slow week anyway and I kind of like the idea of just unplugging without the added stress of the rather intense trips we typically go on.
So again, as we round out Mental Health Awareness month, I hope you’ll take at least a few minutes to consider your own mental health and maybe you too would benefit by adding a professional help component to either help you break through or even to find that next year.
Again, all of those contextual links are at DailySales.Tips/1562 and I’ll include my email and LinkedIn there as well if you want to reach out. I always love hearing from you. Thanks for listening, and be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip!
