Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Chris McNeill. Kind of… Listen to this!
Chris McNeill: Howdy Sales Success Community! Chris back again, kind of. I used AI to clone my voice, as I’m sure you can tell already. As a sales professional, you’ve heard a lot about the potential of artificial intelligence to revolutionize the way we work. With rapid advancements in AI technology and its increasing adoption across industries, it’s easy to wonder if AI will eventually replace human workers, including sales professionals. But here’s the key insight: AI is a powerful tool to enhance your skills, not to make up for a lack of them.
In this tip, we’ll explore how AI can help you become a better salesperson, and how you can use it as a “lever” to amplify your existing skills and knowledge. I won’t name any specific tools, because there are too many to count right now. We need to give the market a little time so we can see who the real leaders are. Large Language Models are excellent at summarizing text. Try letting them take a look at the public financial reporting for one of your customers. Ask it to summarize the financials, the cash flow, the business challenges, and any future initiatives. Rather than wading through 100 pages, you can boil it down to a few paragraphs and save lots of time identifying and aligning to key priorities identified by the executive team.
Just for fun, ask that aim model to position your product against those initiatives and risks. It might identify some things you didn’t think of. One salesperson I know uses AI to help identify ways in which his company’s solutions would likely impact the compensation of executives at his customer accounts. He also asks for suggestions about which product offerings would resonate most strongly with those executives. He combined all this into an account and territory plan that saved him hours of research time, allowing him to focus his energy on landing and driving those business conversations.
Another great example of how AI can be used to enhance our results is as a coach. Go tell your AI of choice to be your sales coach. The more details you provide, the better it will be able to assist you. Give it an idea of your job, your company, and what specific area or methodology you’re seeking help on. The more details you provide, the better. You might also have to revise your prompt several times along the way to continue enhancing your experiene, but you’ll be surprised at the results that can be produced in a short amount of time.
I’m certain that fairly soon, no salesperson will be without excellent coaching, regardless of their manager’s abilities. The key to harnessing the power of AI is to approach it as a lever that amplifies your existing skills and knowledge. Just as a lever allows you to lift a heavy object with less effort, AI can help you achieve better results with the same amount of work. It’s not about replacing your skills but about enhancing them and making you more efficient and effective. To truly benefit from AI, you must have a strong foundation of sales skills, including communication, negotiation, and relationship-building. AI can strengthen these skills and empower you to reach your full potential as a sales professional. But without that foundation, even the most advanced AI tools will have limited impact.
AI is a powerful ally for sales professionals who want to amplify their selling abilities. By leveraging AI to enhance your skills and streamline your processes, you can unlock new levels of success and stay ahead of the competition. Remember, AI is not here to replace you; it’s here to help you become the best salesperson you can be. So use it as a lever, and watch your sales performance soar. So that’s today’s tip. Leverage AI to enhance your sales abilities, not replace them.
