Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from DeJuan Brown, a 20-year tech sales veteran with a passion for human-centered service. Here he is:
DeJuan Brown: Hey everybody. This is DeJuan Brown and today I’m bringing you a sales tip that might seem a little bit out of left field. In fact, it may age some of us who actually remember what I’m referencing. It’s inspired by a 1980s cartoon called Voltron. That’s right, Voltron, the beloved animated series of yesteryear.
Now you might be asking, what on earth does a 1980s cartoon have to do with sales?
Let me explain.
Now, for those of us who remember, in the series Vultron, there were five robotic lions, each of them unique and powerful and mighty and extraordinary in their own right. They come together, though, to form Voltron, this single formidable robot warrior. Now, as individual lions, they’re already impressive.
Each of them have enviable skills and capabilities. Each of them, instead of exhibiting this pride of ownership over their abilities, is willing, though, to combine their strengths, abilities, and skills with the others. And in doing so, they not only shed what could have been a lone wolf mentality, and rightfully so, in favor of creating something much bigger, more powerful, and virtually unstoppable.
It’s super important to realize that as extraordinary as we may be individually, our true strength is only realized when we come together, just like Voltron. When we unite our skills, our intelligence, and diverse ways of thinking, we can become sales forces to be reckoned with. This is because the collective is always more powerful, certainly more diverse, and more capable than any one of us could ever be alone.
It’s this diversity of thought, the combination of different skills, and the merger of unique perspectives that allows us to tackle challenges effectively, adapt to changing market trends, and innovate in ways we simply could not do individually. This unity and diversity is what makes us not just stronger, but virtually unstoppable.
So here’s my sales tip for the day.
Embrace the power of collective skill and intelligence. Pursue diversity on your teams and value that diversity of thought and perspective that results from it.
Alone, we may be formidable, but together we can be unstoppable. Individually, we may be impressive, but collectively, we can become invincible. When we reimagine what our diversity affords us and double our efforts to learn, teach, learn from this frame, we can become partners in each other’s success and the success of the whole.
