Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from our favorite Sales Confidence Igniter and Authentic Selling Crusader, Meshell Baker. Here she is:
Meshell Baker: Hello. Today, we’re going to talk about making the impossible possible. And this is a really great conversation for those of you out there who have targets, have quotas, and KPIs as we get ready to round out this year and we’re heading into the holiday season. So there’s not that many selling days left in the year. I am going to start with a quote from Nelson Mandela. It always seems impossible until it’s done. With that in mind, here are five tips to help you start to move forward, and no matter where you are to do in your year successfully, in your year, proud of yourself. That is the most important thing, is that you want to finish the year strong, believing that you have done your absolute best. That’s what creates success more so than just the acquisition of sales, believing that you’ve done your absolute best.
Step one. Create a vision of what you want. You will hit zero targets that you have not created. This is necessary. So what is it you’re wanting to generate? How many sales do you need? Have you broken it down into a milestone? Do you know that in order to generate X amount of dollars you need to make X amount of calls because this is something you’ve done before. So what is the vision? Get that vision clear. So it is clear, it’s captivating, and it compels you every single day that you wake up to move forward in a favorable manner that there is something that you’re going to do and succeed at. Create that vision.
Step two. Begin asking yourself better questions. So instead of wondering why it’s so hard or why it’s so unfair or why this didn’t work out, begin asking yourself questions about, How can I do this? Who do I know that could help me? Who do I know that succeeded before? Who do I know that has a similar struggle that succeeded before? What is the next step you would have me to take? When you begin communicating with yourself and asking yourself questions, you will begin generating outcomes. Because as you visualize your target, you are curating and cultivating inside yourself the emotional strength, the emotional intelligence that you will not be triggered by anything that is not taking you in the direction of where you want to go. As soon as you set a target, you’re going to be emotionally taken off your path by fear, doubt, second-guessing, and asking yourself great questions is how you continue to move forward despite what the circumstance tell you.
Number three. Put it out there as if already done. If you’re talking to people and they’re asking you, I don’t know, how are you going to do that? You’re like, I don’t know how I’m going to do it, and I’m going to do it. Begin to put it out there as already done. Begin to speak about your success as if you already created it to yourself and to anyone else that asks a question. Do not allow people to feed you with doubt. You always answer back, I don’t know, I’m successful at everything I do, so I’ll succeed at this. So you put it out there, and that’s how you receive success is that you believe in success and you speak success.
Four. Take action. Again, you can create zero results without action. I’ll say that a different way. The only way to create results is with action. Moving forward, overthinking, hypothesizing, theorizing what could be does not help you. Take action, move forward fast.
Then five. Be relentless. Understand, it’s not the most talented who win, it’s the most relentless who do. What that means basically is that your consistent persistence will always wear out the resistance of fear, doubt, and second-guessing. The more you move forward and you’re relentless in your actions, the more momentum you’ll build, and the more you will start believing in yourself, and the more you will start bumping into the people and the circumstances that will help you deliver your impossible and make it possible.
I’m going to close with a quote from Audrey Hepburn, Nothing is impossible. The word itself is I’m possible. Add a catastrophe after the I, capitalize the P, and it becomes I’m possible. I am possible. So again, making the impossible possible is how you actually, in this year, successful, proud of yourself, and prepared to start 2024 and become more. Have a great day selling.
