Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Meshell Baker, our favorite sales confidence igniter and authentic selling crusader. Here she is:
Meshell Baker: Today, I want to talk about discipline determination delivers exceptional results. Now, first, I want to point out an interesting concept about delivering exceptional results requires that you become someone who is exceptional, which is also someone who is extraordinary and someone who deals in excellence. I want to start today with a quote by Nido Qubein, An extraordinary person is someone who consistently does things ordinary people can’t do or won’t do. That’s what would make you exceptional and create exceptional results.
Let’s jump into it. Four tips.
One. Follow through on commitments to others. Too often people do not follow through on their commitments. This takes concerted effort and sometimes requires taking a class, finding a mentor, taking a seminar on how to track your results. Follow through on your commitments is a huge indicator of whether you’re exceptional. Think about how many people said they would do something for you that they have not done and never did. Often it’s not intentional. They just forget or they do not track their commitments and list them out in a way that they can follow through on them. That’s number one.
Two. Encourage others to embrace being excellent, their stretch goals, going beyond what they normally do. When you are someone that’s exceptional, you inspire others to be exceptional as well. As I say, whatever you value and whatever you can Consider yourself to be, that means when you can do that, when you’re valuable, you can give it to other people. So if you’re exceptional, you can inspire others to be exceptional as well. So know what other people are up to. Be confident. Help them to see that they are absolutely capable, that they can do amazing things as well. And that means that you are someone who believes you can do amazing things as well.
Number three. Act quickly within reason. So we’re not talking about taking hasty actions. It means that you are thinking through and you are acting so that there’s no delay and it decreases cost and increases effectiveness. Cutting through bureaucracy and red tape to get things done so that results happen. Remember, there are no results without action, so taking action will deliver results.
Number four. I want to point out is initiative. Again, there is no result without action. So your willingness to ask for forgiveness and not permission will ensure that you are generating more exceptional results. So taking initiative means being curious, being inquisitive, looking around, and being able to ascertain what is needed and move forward in the spirit of generating incredibly great outcomes.
So think about it. Are you disciplined to deliver exceptional results? Which means that you are exceptional, which also often puts you in a place of being the exception and being alone. Can you be alone? Can you make decisions without needing a committee and having lots of people applaud you when there’s a result? If you can do this, you’re on your path to generating great results and becoming a great seller. Have a great day selling.
