Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Craig Sanders. Craig is a seasoned beginner who is inspired and motivated by his peers in the Sales Success Society. Here he is:
Craig Sanders: Hello everybody. Craig Sanders here. I wanted to talk about perspective. I have the joy of being at my company’s sales kickoff meeting in Seattle this past week. In our collaborative sessions, one of the sessions was about growing. When we sat amongst other salespeople, granted, they’re probably over about 700 people from around the world, salespeople for my company. I sat with my group of peers who I usually work with, they asked us to move to different tables where we don’t know anybody. So I didn’t do that. And we went and sat.
So there we were wanting to discuss. They gave us an action item to discuss with your peers about how this opportunity is about growing, how to do something differently. When I turned to my peers at my table, the gentlemen were from Japan and Malaysia. They seemed to both speak Japanese, but had extreme trouble speaking English. It was just broken as far as the conversation. Repeating what I did and then sharing it. We got to a break and I was telling my boss, Dude, I’m having to grow sooner than later in what was going on. I’m not sure what’s possible here.
My boss came back and suggested that I switch tables, and I came back and said, No, I’m going to grow. But got back to the table, started talking with my peers, and then epiphany hit in and went talking to these guys, and I said, Hey, do you guys have a Google translator? Eyes lit up, and they said, Yes, of course we do. And then all of a sudden, we put Google translator into motion. And soon enough, the activity in this discussion was awesome. They were talking about viable concerns, what they were trying to convey, which I got, and I was able to communicate back to them how we might be able to solve their problems or what they might explore.
But it was a great another hour and a half with these individuals. It was pretty cool. We got some things across collaboratively. We shared some action items, but we both got it, all three of us. We got what we can do and what we can do. And not wasting each other’s time. It’s about changing your perspective, which is what I did and which I’m grateful for. Hopefully, something that you guys can consider doing at one time down the road. Enjoy your day. Come join us at the Sales Success Society, and I look forward to seeing you there. Take care.
