Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today and tomorrow I wanted to share some trends that I’m seeing across sales in general. If you like these let me know and maybe I’ll start sharing these on a more regular basis. The first I’ll share with you today is that sales hiring seems to be picking up. I haven’t figured out exactly how much of a lag there is, but remember that markets are forward looking.
If we look at the S&P 500 it peaked in December of 2021 at around 4700. It then dropped down below 3600 in September of 2022. I believe that drop corresponded with the tough market and much slower hiring that we’ve seen over the last 12 months or so. Since then we’re up into the 5100 range recently and I’ve seen quite a few signs that things are picking up. In fact I mentioned this to a friend just the other day in the morning. That afternoon he texted me to let me know that he’d heard from 6 recruiters that day and doesn’t have himself marked as actively looking on LinkedIn.
I’m not Nostradamus or anything, but would bet that at least for the next 6 months or so the sales job market is going to be particularly strong, and if you’re not in the right spot, this is probably a good time to start looking and having conversations. Pretty simple idea. I’m curious to know if you’re seeing the same thing, and be sure to come back tomorrow to hear about the next trend that I’m seeing. Thanks for listening!
