Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from David Weiss. David is the Chief Revenue Officer of the Sales Collective and founder of DealDoc. Here he is:
David Weiss: Hey, everybody. David Weiss here with another tip of the day. Today’s tip is not all revenue is equal. In fact, revenue is a vanity metric. The thing that you should be caring about is profit. Do not sell bad business. It destroys the profit of organizations.
When you sell bad business, and bad business is business that needs to be written off, bad business is business that takes service and customer success 10 times more time to work with, it’s the customers that call you and are rude and are not nice. It’s the ones that blame you for everything when they used your product or service wrong. It’s the people who refuse to take responsibility. It’s the people when they buy something, they don’t use it and then blame the vendor for selling it to them. That is bad business.
So one of the policies that you should absolutely have inside of your selling motion is no jerks. Do not accept business from them. It will ultimately end up biting you. So before you take any revenue, think about the company, think about yourself, think about your reputation and your brand. Do not work with people that will hurt it. It will ultimately cost you more in the long run.
