Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today Jeff Bajorek is back in his regular weekly spot to inspire and entertain. Here he is:
Jeff Bajorek: How this idea recently while coaching, some of my clients who didn’t get that break, that they were accustomed to between the holidays last year. A lot of people had to work all the way through close of business on December 31st to make the most of whatever 2020 gave them. And I will let you choose the four-letter word that suits your situation, but keep that between you and your podcast player right now. Anyway, whether it was your week between the holidays that you didn’t get or Hey, maybe you got it. There is going to be a time this spring early this summer, where you would ordinarily take that trip. I think there are a lot of spring break vacations that aren’t going to happen this year because people just on that everybody is ready to travel the way they used to, but you still need to disconnect from your business. You still need to give yourself an opportunity to recharge, refresh so that you can do your best work.
Look, your clients demand. They deserve. They need you to do your best work. You owe it to them to give yourself a chance to recharge and refresh yourself. But that’s another episode, perhaps. But given the weird feelings around travel this year, I’ve got another opportunity for you. Another idea for you, instead of just doing the old staycation thing, where basically that just means that you’re not requiring yourself to work, but you’re going to work anyway. If you can’t go on vacation, why don’t you send your tech on vacation? Why don’t you give your tech a three-day weekend? What do I mean by this? I mean, put your phone, put your tablet, put your laptop in a duffel bag, send it to a friend’s house, send it to a neighbor’s house. Get it out of your house for three days, for a long weekend. Just send it over there. Just put it in a corner of someone’s house and tell them not to mind it. And you’ll be back on Sunday, maybe with a bottle of wine or some carry out or whatever, to thank them for the inconvenience of an extra piece of luggage in their house.
What does this do? Well, it gives you an opportunity to really free up. Gives you an opportunity to be home in a space that you’re already comfortable. You don’t have to worry about a brb when they don’t have the amenities that they say that they will, right? You don’t have to take the risks. You don’t even have to pay the money. And if like me, you live with the most important people of your lives. Well then who else would you rather spend the time with? Do you need a phone call coming in?
Look, you can still watch TV. You can still get Netflix and Hey, the people you live with probably have phones too. So if there’s really an emergency, someone can get a hold of you. What I’m saying is the brake is still necessary. The brake is required. It will help you do your best work, the work that your customers and clients need you to do, but it eliminates even the distraction and the hassle and the stress and anxiety of doing all that travel. So, Hey, is this a little hokey? Maybe, but it’s something that I can tell you will work because those red circles on your phone, don’t go away just because you say you’re not working and that laptop and that pile of work on your desk, in your home office now. If you can’t shut the door on that, you need to at least eliminate your ability to dig into that. This is your vacation. If you were on a beach, you wouldn’t worry about it. If you can’t get to the beach, send your tech not to the beach, but to neighbor’s house.
