Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. One of the things I feel like I speak the most consistently about is being consistent. So much of my own success has come from doing the right things consistently over years. It takes a lot of discipline, but I think it shows everyone, including yourself, that you’re committed. Getting in and just doing the work, the right work, consistently over time is almost guaranteed to generate good results. Yesterday on LinkedIn I shared a post about my experience with my Peloton. I’ll include a link to that post at DailySales.Tips/744.
I’ve been an indoor cyclist for something like 20 years. For a period of many years, I taught classes at the YMCA here in downtown Austin, but Peloton and the approach I’ve taken has made a huge difference, and I’m still improving even after 20 years. Each of the last 3 years I’ve consistently ridden about 150 times per year and have been really focused on the type of training I’m doing. The result is a roughly 15% improvement over an established baseline over the course of 3 years. To be able to say that I’m 15% better than I was 3 years ago after nearly 2 decades is incredible, especially since I’m certainly not getting younger. Turns out we age linearly in only one direction.
My main point here is that no matter how experienced or advanced you might be, there’s still room to improve, especially if you’ll apply diligent and consistent effort to what you’re working on. Look at this podcast. I started this show just over 2 years ago. Exactly 744 days ago, and I know that because I haven’t missed a day. This show continues to grow, year over year and month over month. It’s about consistent effort. In the case of this show, it’s gotten a lot easier too. There are lots more people contributing tips, and telling their friends about the show. It’s about the consistency. I’m a big fan of the quote: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.”
So what are you consistently doing? What are you willing to commit to doing every day or every week that is likely to help you achieve the things you hope to achieve?
Speaking of achieving. Tomorrow, February 3rd, is my birthday, and no, that’s not the achievement. Turns out getting older is pretty inevitable. The achievement I’m looking to tomorrow is my 500th Peloton ride. In fact, I’m taking the day off so I can ride every live ride tomorrow. That’s 8 classes and a total of just over three and a half hours. So if you’re a Peloton rider, I would love it if you would join me for at least one of those classes. You’ll find me at SalesTechScott. Join a class, give a follow, and then a couple of high fives so I know you’re part of the community.
Whether or not you’ll be joining me on a ride to help celebrate my birthday… Be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening!
