Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today Andy Jaffke is back with another valuable tip. Here he is:
Andreas “Andy” Jaffke: Good morning! Daily Sales Tips Community. This is Andy Jaffke, one of the co-authors of Teams Win Championships. Today, I bring you a new tip, and that is communication. Communication is the oil of the motor of any team, and this includes sales teams. So you have to make sure that, first of all, you understand that communication is really important. And communication is not only what you say, it’s also about how you look like, how you behave, how you show up, and how you listen to people.
So one of the most important things for a salesperson is listening. Listening is I think is the most undervalued skill of a salesperson. We all think the presentation skills and speaking skills and maybe even writing skills and putting together a proposal are the key. But if you think about it, if you want to really deliver on the expectations of the buyer, you need to be able to listen, to listen, to understand what the buyer really needs and what the buyer does not need. Because how will you then accomplish to align with your products and services, if you do not exactly understand what the buyer needs in the given situation.
So listening as a starting point, it’s super important in the discovery process. And that means you have to be a master of questioning and not just questions and no questions. The open questions, the what, the how, and the who.
So today’s tip is clearly level up your communication skills, especially listening skills. And then you will see that this is a 360 exercise. You have to communicate all-around your team to the clients, to a solution engineers, to the product manager, to the finance planner, to the deal desk people, and everyone else who supports you to make your deal happen. So buckle up, understand that communication is the oil of your team’s motor. Thank you so much for listening and have a great day.
