Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips Podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. When I got my official start in sales as a Major Accounts District Manager at ADP, I was hungry and pretty close to poor with a very young family at home. In fact, my second daughter was born during my tenure in the role, and podcasts weren’t really a thing back then and to feed my hunger for knowledge I leveraged the heck out of my local library because it was infinitely cheaper than Amazon or the book store.
Now, I think we forget about how valuable a resource the library still is. Besides, you’re paying for it with your tax dollars, so you may as well take advantage of them.
Beyond the physical books in your local library, typically you can also get access to tons of eBooks and audio books through services like Overdrive that are often available for free with your library card. You may want to check out what other virtual library type resources are available to you.
Another trick I’ve recently discovered is the ability to suggest the Title. There’s probably a link on your library’s website where you can literally ask them to buy a copy of a book for their collection. So if they don’t already have that book you’ve been dying to read, just ask for it. Selfishly I hope you’ll ask them to purchase a copy of Sales Success Stories, which is now available in audio form on CDs. We did that specifically for libraries, but of course this tip works for any book you’re interested in.
For today’s discussion, I’d love to know when you last visited your own library, and if you actively leverage this amazing community resource. Leave a comment at DailySales.Tips/40 and on that page I’ll include the ISBN numbers for Sales Success Stories. Just in case you want to suggest that book to your own local library.
The come back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening!
