Scott Ingram: You are listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host Scott Ingram. Here we are at tip number 210 and we haven’t missed a day. I am super proud of that streak and I’m making a few changes behind the scenes just to make it a little bit easier for my team and I to keep that streak alive. So today I thought I’d talk just a bit about consistency because I firmly believe that you’ll be most successful with those things that you do most consistently and I’ve got a positive example for you as well as a contrary example. If you hadn’t already guessed this show is the positive example. It has continued to grow consistently since we launched in January and there are a lot of other sales podcasts out there for the last couple of years. Now I’ve maintained a list of every active sales podcast I can find and that list is currently over 200 shows strong. If you want to check that out, you can click over to DailySales.Tips/210 and I’ll have a link in there for you.
What super impressive is that of those hundreds of shows on Spotify, for example, this show is the third most popular sales podcast and the two shows above it have been around for three and four years respectively. That just speaks to the power of establishing a strong pace and sticking with it no matter what. That counterexample is my triathlon training. I mentioned a couple of months ago that I was going to train for a triathlon, a triathlon that is now next Sunday, the 25th fortunately my wave starts at 7:46 AM but doing a triathlon in Texas in August is borderline stupid. When the gun goes off, I’ll be looking at temperatures in the upper seventies or low eighties and when I finished the run, it’ll likely be in the upper eighties and potentially even the low nineties anyway, I digress. Things started off really well. My early training was very consistent and on track, but as my vacation got closer and certainly on vacation, things started to slip. I ran one time over the course of my entire two-week vacation, so all told I probably did something like 75 to 80% of the training plan I had originally devised for myself. Now I’ll still finish. It’s only a sprint triathlon, so I’m not really worried about that, but it’s kind of like hitting your quota and doing 102% when you know you could have done way more. It all comes back to consistency because all of these things are long games. The sales year is well a year. It really doesn’t matter that much. What you’re able to do on any single day, it’s about what you’re able to consistently do day in and day out. If you want to go deeper into this topic. One of my favorite discussions that really challenged a lot of my own thinking happened in the interview I did with Jack Wilson and episode 57 of the Sales Success Stories podcast. Definitely worth the listen if you want to learn more about a different model that is all about consistency in a very manageable sort of way.
Now, before I sign off today, I’d like to thank you. This podcast wouldn’t be nearly as successful as it’s been if it weren’t for you listening to this right now and telling your other friends and sales about what’s here for them. I mean it. Thank you.
Now make sure you come back tomorrow for another great sales tip.
