Scott Ingram: Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Tabitha Cavanagh. Tab is a colon cancer survivor turned executive sales recruiter. She facilitates unlikely connections that turn into meaningful relationships and believes in #PeopleOverEverything! Here she is:
Tabitha Cavanagh: If you’ve ever lost a sale or you’re not quite sure why your prospects are not responding to you, I urge you to ask this one question. What is your preferred method of communication? I understand. Hey, they’re not responding to you, so you might not be able to figure that out. But if you poke around a little bit, you might be able to see where they like to hang out if they’re hanging out a lot of LinkedIn. It might be that they’re on their phone a lot. So a text message might be preferred. Or maybe even a voice memo on LinkedIn, for example.
But if you’re not asking that question, you’re probably missing out because you’re spinning your wheels, sending email sequence after email sequence. And they’re not ever going to respond to you because maybe they don’t even check their e-mail that often. I certainly know people that do not like email. And so they’re going to respond to you much quicker if you’re doing something like texting them. So also, it’s going to make you stand out in a little bit of a different way, because I found that most people don’t ask that question and they don’t actually care how their prospects or the other person likes to be communicated with.
But imagine how much quicker you would get back to people if people were reaching out to you in the way that you preferred, you know, with your friends and family. How many times have you maybe hit ignore on a phone call because you’d rather text? So that person understanding that about you, they’ll be able to reach you much easier if you’re communicating with them in that way.
So if you’re looking to keep that communication loop open and solid, then I would highly recommend making sure you understand what this method is and then just following that and it’s going to make for a much smoother process on both sides.
