Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today’s tip comes from Camille Clemons. Camille is a Director at Cohen & Company, she was the star of episode 36 of the Sales Success Stories podcast, she contributed to the first Sales Success Stories book and is truly a pillar of the Sales Success Community. Here she is:
Camille Clemons: This time we’re living in right now is so important. We have the chance to take what feels like a complete cluster and do something with it. If you’re like me, you’ve spent the past three months and a feeling of helplessness and mourning at a complete loss for words. I’ve never had to explain to my children why they can’t see their friends? Why they can’t hug grandma? Why we aren’t watching the news? Why everyone seems so angry? Why not to be afraid of the police? Why their behavior is a choice? And the importance of speaking up has always been important. We have specific, painful images of why you don’t. Why if you don’t, someone’s life may be cut short.
I felt helpless watching the footage of an Academy award-winning abuse of a woman who knew her position. She knew her place. She knew what she was capable of and she abused it. Thankfully, that act didn’t end the way so many have in recent times. Thankfully, she was held accountable and another human being wasn’t the victim of abuse and outright malicious behavior.
In our house we have two rules, work hard and be nice. I tell my kids if you do these two things all the time, you’re going to end up doing really big things. Well, I hope it is enough, my behavior is what really speaks volumes. It’s times like these, I stop. I ask myself, what can I do. When it feels like everything is falling apart, it feels like you don’t have the experience to handle the situation. You’ve never seen it before. No one has. When you feel completely helpless. Don’t run from it, lead through it. Dig deep. Be bigger than the circumstances we find ourselves in.
The obstacle is the way we are so much bigger than this. Be genuine. Be human. It’s okay to admit you don’t have the answers, but don’t let that be an excuse for not taking action. Be the example to the person who feels they don’t have a voice. No one is perfect. No one has all of the answers. But the beauty, the beauty is the race we call humanity. The beauty of that, the beauty is when we see the strengths and knowledge when we work together.
Be brave work to erase that red line. Take the time to hear someone out. Be an advocate, be a friend. Teach your kids to be friends. Take the time to find out you, your skillset, your passion, your true hope to lead this world in a better place you found it. Educate yourself, read, write, do. You’re not helpless. Dig deep, play small ball. Start at home. Start in your community. Use your community. Be there for your community. Teach your community what you’ve learned. Don’t let this conversation go it’s way too important.
I’ve included a couple of things that I’m using at this moment to help just educate myself and get through it. I’ll send those over to Scott. And if you want to continue the conversation, be part of this community.
