Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today Meshell Baker is back with another killer tip. Here she is:
Meshell Baker: Hello, and welcome to today’s Daily Sales Tip. The 4Cs of Success. So let’s get started.
The first C is Critical thinking because remember, in sales, things rarely go the way as planned. You will always be met with the unexpected, the unplanned, some feelings of uncertainty, being inconvenienced, and literally, this is all going to make you feel discomfort and uncomfortable. So your ability to critically think, that means to assess what is happening in the moment, assess the situation, assess what are the tools? Who are the people that you already know? How can you still move forward in a favorable outcome? Because trust me, if you go into a fear zone, you will only generate a fearful outcome. So focusing on and being able to critically think and assess what is happening.
Now, once you assess all of that, the next thing is Creative thinking. Again, your creativity makes you infinite. It makes you valuable to those clients and those buyers that you’re about to serve. Your ability to assess and then go into Okay, I know it didn’t work the way I thought it would or the way I even told them it would. How can I still make this favorable? How can I contact them and not tell them about the problem, not make excuses and apologize, but to instead talk to them about, you know what, I am going to over-deliver. What I said I was, this didn’t go the way as planned. And no but. And I am still delivering and exceeding your expectations. So your ability to creatively think will help you in the midst of things not going favorable or the way you plan to still over-deliver and create those raving fan clients.
The next C is Communication. Because again, your ability to communicate when things don’t go as planned is what will be the launchpad or the lynchpin for you, generating more opportunities, more success. And again, nobody wants to be around a complainer and a whiner. Everybody has faced with things that they didn’t expect. So what are you doing? How are you speaking in those moments? How are you communicating your belief that you will still create favorable, profitable outcomes for all involved. That is key and essential to your success and your sales role. And if you’re looking at moving up in the company or creating more opportunity, people love to be around people who positively think about how they can profitably turn things around in favor of all involved.
And C is the Confidence, the confidence for you to communicate and not be like an ostrich and put your head in the sand. So many people get those feelings in your body. When things don’t go and planned, they get uncomfortable. And the first thing our knee-jerk reaction your reptilian brain wants you to do is to go find someone else to complain whine blame, shame, and talk about what didn’t happen and how unfair it is. The person who is truly wanting to create success will instead locate and find someone and have the confidence to have the difficult conversation to move past the feelings of uncomfortable and unfair and move into their unlimited ability to create favorable outcomes.
So again, your 4C are Critical thinking, Creative thinking, Communication, and Confidence. When you step into those any situation will turn in your favor and it doesn’t mean it’s going to immediately turn and I promise you it will always turn, when you think in terms of favorable outcomes that’s the only thing you’ll be able to create. Have a great day selling!
