Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today I’ve got my own tip for you that I used pretty extensively over the weekend. Unless I absolutely have to I don’t watch live presentations. This especially applies to webinars, but I’m also thinking of applying Matt Du Pont’s suggestion from tip #816 and even applying this to my own company meetings that get recorded.
There are two reasons why it makes sense to skip the live version. The first is it’s probably during a productive part of your day when you’d be better served doing something else, and second, you can’t speed up live. I use a chrome extension called Video Speed Controller. I’ve got a link to that for you at DailySales.Tips/849. This allows me to speed up the playback of any video in my browser. I don’t remember what the defaults are, but I’ve customized the settings so that when a video starts I just press the letter F on my keyboard and it automatically starts playing the video at double speed. If I need to slow things back down I can press the letter R to go back to regular speed. F for Fast, R for Regular.
Now I can watch that 30-minute presentation in just 15 minutes after hours. This is how I listen to podcasts as well. If you’re listening to podcasts at regular speed. Try speeding it up. Most podcast players have this option, and if playing things at 2 times is too much, try starting with a 10 or 20% increase and building up over time. You have that same level of granular control with the Video Speed Controller extension. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Then, be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening!
