Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. In last week’s Encore Series session with Jacquelyn Nicholson and her presentation on Building Rapport and Relationships, I don’t remember exactly how this came up in the Q&A, but Jacquelyn’s answer to one of the questions was: “Do what you would do.” This immediately grabbed me and I thought it was such profound advice. Too often we ask people: “What should I say in this situation?” or “How should I react in this circumstance,” and the problem with getting other people’s advice on these types of things is it’s often what would work best for them given their personality, style, and their approach. That brilliant one-liner that might work wonders for them might completely backfire on you because you’re coming from a different place. Your tonality might be different. Who knows.
So this idea of doing what you would do is so good, and I tried to apply my best improv skills to ‘Yes, AND’ the concept. Because I thought that I wouldn’t necessarily always want to do what I would do in all circumstances. Instead, I would want to do what the best version of me would do. So that’s my challenge for you today. Try this out as your faced with different challenges and situations throughout the day. Ask yourself: What would the best version of me do, and I’d be willing to bet that that is the perfect thing for you to do. Now go out there and inspire yourself.
And then, come on back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening!
