Now he talks to organizations and sales professionals about how to connect with your clients and get the sales you want. Here he is:
Lon Graham: Today’s Daily Sales Tip is talking about influencing how others talk about you. When I was a kid growing up, we moved around a lot because my dad was in the Air Force, which meant that every three years, like clockwork, we packed up and moved to a different town, a different state, sometimes even a different country. When I was in the 9th grade, we were living in Germany and it was just my dad and I and we lived in an apartment on base and that apartment had one bathroom. And because the apartment only had one bathroom, we developed a routine for every morning. And that routine was my dad would get up, get ready, and then he would make breakfast. I would get up, we’d have breakfast together and then dad would go to work and I’d get ready and then go to school. Also part of that routine was listening to the radio. Fortunately for both of us, there was only one English-speaking station in all of Europe. So we didn’t debate which station we listened to.
One morning we’re going through our routine. Dad gets up, gets ready, makes breakfast, I get up, we have breakfast together and he goes to work and I go get ready for school. And while I’m getting ready, I hear this voice on the radio and the voice says, “Please join me in congratulating Alex Graham for being recognized as the controller of the year for the armed forces in Europe.” Well, my dad neglected to tell me that. I had to hear from some guy on the radio, some voice on the radio that my dad was recognized for controller of the year in Europe.
Here’s the point of that story and here’s the Daily Sales Tip.
People are going to talk about you. And when you’re in sales, your clients will talk about you. When you’re around, and even more so when you’re not around. You get to influence what they say. So the recommendation is, be so good that your clients will talk about how good you are even when you’re not around. It’s good for you and it’s good for business. Thank you.
Scott Ingram: Lon would love to connect with you on LinkedIn or have you visit his website and we’ve got links for you to do both of those things at DailySales.Tips/1133.
Once you’ve done that, be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening!
