Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Happy Friday everyone. Here’s Jack Wilson with today’s tip:
Jack Wilson: What’s going on Daily Sales Tips Community? I’m Jack Wilson, back with another tip. Today I want to talk to you about Parkastinating. You heard it right, not Procrastinating, Parkastinating. And it’s a combination of two things I love.
One, the joke about how I used to be a crastinator but that’s until I turned pro. And two, Parkinson’s Law. Parkinson’s Law says that you will fill up the time allotted with the task assigned to it. So if you’ve got a task that only takes you 30 minutes, but you give yourself an hour, you’re going to take the whole hour. Whether it’s an hour, a week, or a month, that law almost always applies.
So what I want to recommend to you as a daily tip is if you find yourself being a procrastinator, use that as your superpower. Start scheduling tasks to be completed close enough to the deadline where you know you won’t stress about knowing it has to be done, but you have plenty of time to complete that task, also with a margin plus or minus for error on either side because you never want to put yourself up against the gun.
This tip actually came from a great conversation from a member of the Sales Success Community. Shout out to Nicole, Ms. Ellie, for joining us in X factions this week and sharing that sometimes you can be so busy with positive things going on that you can tend to procrastinate on some of the other things, like admin work on the back end.
So again, just to recap, turn your procrastination into a superpower, schedule your tasks closer to the deadline for smaller windows, and become a Parkastinator.
