Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. It’s Monday y’all, so let’s have some fun with Meshell Baker. Here she is:
Meshell Baker: Hello. Today we’re going to talk about FUN because FUN Gets More Done. So F-U-N:
F – Favorable. So Favorable is that state of beneficial, beneficial to you, beneficial to others. So thinking in terms of as a seller, as a sales leader, how does the favoring or favorable state impact myself, my clients, my prospects, the company that I work for?
Now, Uncertainty. That’s the word that immediately you think of the unknown and it creates a sense of being uncomfortable.
So what we’re going to do is put those together.
So Favorable Uncertainty Nurture, basically means that you are instead of looking for things to not when you have that sense of uncomfortable, you are actually looking for things to be beneficial.
How can this work out? How can this outcome work in the benefit of everyone, so there’s win win win all around and this is what you’re learning to Nurture.
And that’s why FUN Gets More Done because again, it makes you magnetically attractive to colleagues, to opportunity, to prospects, to other people in life, love being around fun people who are also focused on creating fortuitous outcomes.
Now, how can you create some elements of fun?
So let’s talk about a playfulness is a sense of lighthearted and doing things with little concern. So it is that joy that you find in the moment. Connection is connecting with people at a different level when you incorporate fun.
So instead of looking to be right or wrong, you’re actually looking to co-create. That’s what kids do. They look for ways to actually create something greater with the two versus being right or wrong.
And flow is basically that sense in the experience, again, of holding the energy and the emotion and the belief and the vision in your mind that this is going to work in the favor of everybody here.
FUN Gets More Done. Remember that.
Now, how can you incorporate some fun in your life?
Well, if you’re like me and you sit at a Zoom most of the day, you can do a fun background, something a place you want to go, something that generates joy and a playfulness in you and the others that will be getting on the screen with you, if you’re allowed. Some people have to use their branded background.
You can dress. Think about a way to add a little piece of jewelry. People add socks, they add ties, not so much, not a lot of people wear ties anymore, the hairstyles. So think about when you stand in front of a full-length mirror, what would make your outfit fun? What would make you feel joy in your outfit and not caring what other people think.
Again, you’ll be amazed when you stop caring what other people think. And you incorporate a fun and a playfulness into your decisions that it actually benefits other people. You’re so scared that they’re going to think bad about you and it actually is something that will help them to actually feel good about you when you step into it.
Music is another method. So songs, I have a rule of thumb when I’m in a public place, like if I’m at a grocery store, a Walmart, or a hobby lobby, places where they pipe in music, an office max.
So if I’m in places like that and they pipe in music and a song comes on and I feel my body start to move with the song, I am required by Meshell’s Rule to actually dance along to the entire song because it reminds me that I am here to have fun. I’m here to enjoy and have fulfillment and satisfaction in my life. And as I dance through the store to the song, I always get either someone who dances with me, I always get people who smile at me. Yes, I get the side eye, but I don’t pay attention to those people. I get people who say, “Thank you. Watching you gave me joy.”
So when I stopped thinking about what people would think about me and started understanding that this was my opportunity in my moment to have joy, it actually gave more joy to other people. So when you incorporate fun, favoring the uncertainty that it’s going to be a win win win, regardless of what has happened, what didn’t happen, and actually practicing smiling and engaging in how can I turn this around. You will be amazed at what you’re able to co-create with the people instead of attempting to be right or wrong.
So FUN Gets More Done and it’s always more fun when it’s more than one. So enjoy, take some breaks, turn on some music, wear a funny ties, do whatever you need to do today. Have some fun and have a great day selling.
