Meshell Baker: Hello and welcome to the ABC’s of Sales. Today’s letter is W and W is for Wonder. Wonder is defined as a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration caused by something beautiful, unexpected, unfamiliar, or inexplicable. Wonder is both a journey and a destination, making it a limitless and easily renewable energy source that is already available to you. Wonder transforms how you perceive the world. No matter who you are or where you live, approaching situations out of reactivity or fear can cause tunnel vision that can be captured thinking and decisions. Wonder naturally links you to a greater comfort with uncertainty, creativity, innovation, equipping your ability to cope with the challenges of being a seller and a sales leader. Here’s Meshell’s acronym for WONDER.
W – Ask yourself; Why you want to succeed in sales? What will you accomplish and achieve? What will you purchase? Where will you travel? Then circle back and ask yourself who you will become as you amass your wealth and success. When you become someone of massive worth and value, you will always attract and effortlessly create income-generating opportunities. That is why who you become is always more important than what you acquire.
O – Observe how you behave when things don’t go your way or as planned. This is an opportunity to learn and grow in these spaces. Valuable people do not run away, avoid, tell stories, or shirk responsibilities in the face of failure, mistakes, and setbacks. Your ability to become self-aware and make the necessary adjustments will set you apart, empowering you to leverage difficulties and problems as profitable possibilities.
N – Nurture your curiosity about the traits of successful sellers. Remember, success leaves clues. Trying to figure out what others have achieved is a waste of time. Seek out mentors, wise counsel, and coaches, read books, listen to podcasts. Nourish your mind until you believe success is the only option.
D – Discipline yourself to do the things that successful people do that unsuccessful people are not willing to do. So you can live the life you know you deserve. Start small with one or two things you know that you know will impact and strengthen your confident mindset. The goal is to establish your nonnegotiable habits. Once you cannot do these initial few habits, stack on a few more. Remember, this is a marathon, not a sprint.
E – Execute everything you do with excellence so you become someone who is extraordinary. This sets you apart, clearly differentiates you and your competition, and makes you exceptionally attractive in the marketplace. You see, efforts of excellence are always for you and about you. Yes, you perform these actions towards others, yet you are building your belief in your capabilities, empowering you to become extraordinary, regardless of the situation, circumstance, or person you are faced with. You get to be amazing no matter what effortlessly.
R – Repetition is the mother of all success. Without repeated practice and failure, and practice and failure, and practice and failure, you will never reach the status of being a consistently top-performing seller or sales leader. Sales is an emotionally, mentally, spiritually, physically, and financially challenging career, especially when you are new, change jobs, or change industries. It is only your ability to keep going with your unwavering belief that success becomes imminent and when you discover you enjoy sales as a way of being. Have a great day selling.
