Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today Meshell Baker, the Sales Confidence Igniter, is back with the next installment of her multi-part series. Here she is:
Meshell Baker: Good morning and welcome to the ABC’s of Sales. Today’s letter is X, and X is for XCEPTIONAL. Yes, that was a workaround word. Now, counter to what you may believe what being XCEPTIONAL is, it’s not simply about wealth, it’s not simply about status. It’s not about the physical acquisitions, the accolades, the achievements. Though that is part of it. XCEPTIONAL people, they seem to have it all. Not only do they have all the outer trappings that come with being a successful seller, they also have more soft-spoken qualities of their character because they know how to be wholly successful. And that takes being a good human being.
So I’m going to give you 10 traits of XCEPTIONAL people.
1. Grace. Grace is that ability to be dignified and elegant in appearance and movement and behavior, and to have a compassion and softness and strength for other people who feel vulnerable and not self-assured.
Kindness, it comes naturally that they are consistently how they treat people and their thoughts, their words, their actions, leaving people feeling better off for having experienced them.
Composure, it is the way they hold themselves in any setting. They are consistently someone who stands with confidence, is not challenged by other people’s words, behaviors, and beliefs. They actually are composed in who they are and stand that way.
Fearless, they actually believed and dared greatly. They dared to do things that are extraordinary, that are out of the norm, that are other people don’t even think possible.
Poised, again, it’s a self-development and personal growth that they constantly invest in themselves so that they are able to adapt and be fluid in the midst of circumstances because they have information and knowledge and they have an outer circle of people that help them to stay poised in their belief that they are exceptional.
Deliberate, that hesitation, doubt, fear, second-guessing, and asking tons of people what they think. They are deliberate in who they are, who they’re being, and they refine themselves to be clear and to make positive and profitable decisions in the face of all circumstances.
Intelligent or learner. They are actually well rounded, not just about sales, not just about their company, but about people, humanity, others, and whole. They take the time to get to learn other people around them and the people that they do life with and work with.
Unassuming, which basically means that they prefer to celebrate the accomplishments of others. It’s not about them, it’s about the group as a whole. They are the person that when you’re with them, you feel better for being with them. They are truthful, honest, integrity.
So number nine, it’s truthful. They feel good about who they are and their honesty so that they don’t waver in their ability to be authentic, honest, even and they find ways their honesty doesn’t hurt another human being. Being honest is not about just being truthful for who you are. It’s about how your honesty impacts the whole. And they are exceptional in their ability to be truthful, yet affirming of other people at the same time.
And number ten, they are loving. There’s nothing more appealing to anyone else than the presence of someone who embraces you for who you are, that unconditional acceptance affirmation that they are able to give other people because they understand it’s fluid. Their ability to give of that lovingness to other people actually fills their cup to overflow so that they’re able to stand for others. Even if they don’t agree, even if it’s not what they believe, they understand that it is just the ability to embrace the whole that leaves them being exceptional. So have a great day selling and seek to be exceptional today.
