Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today, Jeff Bajorek is back with what selfishly is one of my favorite tips so far. Here he is:
Jeff Bajorek: Reach out, connect, say hi, ask for something, please. It never ceases to amaze me how accessible the people that I look up to and certainly the people that you look up to as well make themselves to people like us reaching out to connect. Yeah, I know that guy’s got a bestselling book and I know that she is speaking somewhere every week if not two or three times a week, but those people like hearing from us, I like hearing from you. Some of my favorite people in sales have just reached out and said “you know what, I’ve got a question and I think that you may have an answer for me. Do you mind can we Facetime? Can we hop on a zoom call? Can we just grab a virtual cup of coffee or, or can I just pick up the phone and call you.” And I almost unequivocally, except for a few really strange cases “say yes.” Because that is why I do what I do. I love having this regular spot here on Daily Sales Tips because people like you have reached out to me and said “I heard that it worked. I liked it. Please give me more.” Nothing fuels my fire more than people reaching out to me, giving me a virtual pat on the back and saying, “keep going because I enjoy your work.” And I have talked to the other people who have written the bestselling books, who are on the speaking circuits and they all say the same thing. So the other thing that ceases to amaze me is how many people refuse to do that? Sure. You’re trying to tweet to somebody because they’re a prospect or you’re connecting with someone on LinkedIn because you’re trying to get their attention to sell them something. Why aren’t you just reaching out and making genuine connections with the people who are asking you to do that? It’s really, really humbling to have someone reach out, tap you on the shoulder and say, “I love what you do. I wish people would do it more.” And the thing is when people do it, I’m always happy to reciprocate with something helpful for them. And I know I speak for everybody else on the Daily Sales Tips podcast because I’ve heard Scott talk about it and we all talk about it when we get together. So Reach out, Connect, Ask for something, please. That’s what we’re here for.
Scott Ingram: You heard Jeff say it. Now, will you do it? Reach out to Jeff, reach out to me, reach out to your favorite contributor to this podcast or any other podcast. I’d be willing to bet that the majority of the time you’ll get a response. Then come back tomorrow for another great sales tip from Jack Wilson who I know would love to hear from you as well. In fact, Jack and I have become friends simply because he reached out to me after hearing my conversation with John Barrow’s on John’s Make It Happen Monday’s podcast. In fact, I just looked up that initial correspondence. It’s a great example and I’ve included it for you to see on this tip’s page at DailySales.Tips/173
Check it out, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
