Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Happy New Year! Today is January 1st and for most of us who are on a calendar fiscal year, it’s the start of a brand new fresh selling year. Everything resets to zero. For some of you that might be frustrating, for others it might be a welcome relief, but it is what it is. I like to look at it as a positive. Sure it can be frustrating to have that “what have you done for me lately” pressure on us all of the time, but in what other role do you get such a fresh clean start? If you missed 2019, but get off to a great start in 2020 and put up a strong January and a solid Q1, most people will forget about what happened last year. And if you’re like a lot of people who listen to this show who are perennial top performers. Now you’ve got an opportunity to go back to the same starting line with everyone else on your team and prove once again that you’re the best and show them how it’s done. Though I really hope that you won’t go this alone. Yes, sales is definitely a competitive sport and many of us love the game and the leaderboard and being on top, but don’t forget that it’s also a team sport. Winning by yourself isn’t really winning. Very few deals are won solely through our efforts. We’ve got a whole bunch of people throughout the organization supporting us and supporting our efforts. Remember them. Celebrate them. Thank them. And step up and be a real leader on your team as well by helping everyone get better. If you’re doing well, then share what you’re doing with the other sellers on your team. Make them better competitors. If you really want to step up this year and build your personal brand, I know a lot of you will be stepping up your game on LinkedIn and I hope to bring you some more tips in that area this year, but if you really want some great visibility. Share a tip here with me and the rest of the Sales Success community. You’re listening, you’re benefiting. Pay it forward. Make it one of your goals to share a sales tip this year.
Enjoy that feeling of a fresh new year today. Remember that 2020 is a leap year and you’ve got 366 days to work with. Not just 11 or 12 days, which is apparently how long the average new year’s resolution lasts. Pace yourself, don’t expect perfection, because it’s not going to happen. Instead, focus on making consistent, incremental strides and get just a little bit better every, single day, and keep coming back here, because we’ll also be here to support you, maybe not perfectly, but definitely consistently, every, single day.
Thanks for listening, and come on back tomorrow and every day after that this year for another great sales tip!
