Diane Helbig: Sales is all about discovery. You’re better off learning as much as you can about your prospects, your customers, your competition, and those you network with then you are trying to convince someone to buy from you. No one likes to be sold. People will buy from you when they trust you and they need what you offer. Moreover, you don’t know whether you can or want to help someone until you know them. Some prospects turn out to be a bad fit and that’s okay. You can’t convince anyone that they need what you offer. So stop trying, choose to be curious, to learn wherever you go. And with everyone you encounter, people will trust you and you will identify where the right opportunities exist. Those prospects will realize this as well. You’ll both see the connection and closing the sale will happen naturally.
