Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Have you ever heard anybody suggest that you should pick up the phone more often? Well, I’m going to pile on because it’s true. We really to.
I had an experience a couple of weeks ago that really blew my mind. A friend of mine got laid off. I first heard about it from another friend who I was talking to on the phone, and when I started to dig in a little bit the next day they had gotten a ton of support and encouragement around some LinkedIn posts that they’d made. It was at that point I picked up the phone and called them, and what they told me next literally blew my mind.
At this point it had been a couple of days since they’d been let go, hundreds, maybe thousands of people knew because of the reach of their posts, but they let me know that I was the first person that had actually called. That’s insane! While we all appreciate a like or a comment or even a personal note on LinkedIn. Nothing matches a conversation.
Want to really stand out and build your network? Call people! It’s not a cold call when you’re calling your friends. I’ve probably whined about this before, but for similar reasons, I hate the social media birthday. You get dozens or maybe even hundreds of generic birthday wishes, but almost nobody picks up the phone and calls.
Want to stand out, want to be in the top 1% of friends. Pick up the phone. Call somebody today and let me know how it goes, then, be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening!
