Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today Meshell Baker, the Sales Confidence Igniter, is back with the next installment of her multi-part series. Here she is:
Meshell Baker: Hello and welcome to The ABCs of Sales. Today’s letter is I, and our word is Imagination. Imagination is defined as the ability to mentally innovate and form solutions for something not yet present.
What I want you to understand is your sales success, that ideal client, that well opportunity, your president’s trophy, your promotion, your pay increase, your new sales job, whatever your big, hairy, audacious goal is for your sales success, it is not present. It does not exist where you currently are. And in order for you to create it, it requires, it demands that you become emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically aligned to the imagery, the visualization of that success, regardless of what you’re faced with on the day-to-day. You must begin to image and imagine success with your mental picture versus your physical eyes.
A book I highly recommend and encourage you to read is The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz. This book primarily focuses on positive thinking and its power to enhance your personal and professional life. The basis of the book concentrates on the importance of thinking big and self-belief. David states in the book the importance of this positive, the dreaming big, the working hard. And when all these elements come together, converge, collaborate on each other, it becomes much easier to attain your success.
Some of the principles that he distills from the book to help you harness the power of your belief, because what I want you to understand is when you believe in yourself, there’s literally nothing you cannot do. And your belief is within your imagination, what you’re visualizing. So some of the principles, the key principles in this book that will help you to begin to move forward in the direction of your greatest sales success are to enlarge your thinking, to eliminate your excuses, to think creatively, take action proactively, to create a first-class environment. I mean, all the things that are surrounding you are first-class, top-notch. To see yourself in a better light.
Think about, what do you think about when you look at yourself in the mirror? What do you think about when someone says something negative to you? When you see yourself in a first class in a better light, it does not penetrate, and what you look at and that’s looking back at you smiles at you.
Conquer your fears. Remember, fear is not real. Danger is real, fear is not.
Set goals, meaningful goals. Remember, acquisition, achievement, and obtaining things external to you are not lasting and fulfilling. Having meaningful goals will make the journey not easier. It’ll make it worthwhile.
Turn defeat into triumph. Remember, failure is only final if you quit.
Improve your attitude. Attitude will change your altitude every time.
And the magnitude of what you attract. Treat people right. You never know where your next opportunity is coming from. You want to be the person that in a room of opportunity, your name comes up multiple times. Treat people right and become an effective leader. And even if you’re not in a leadership role, in order for you to have sustained incredible sales success throughout your life, in the span of your career, you must become a leader in some form. Even if you never take a leadership role, you must become a leader that has people advocate and work on your behalf.
A book I highly encourage and recommend is The Magic of Thinking Big It will help you cultivate and curate an imagination that will make you unstoppable. Have a great day selling.
