Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. All this week we’ve been featuring EnableMinutes from Allego’s new show while I’m out on vacation with the family. Today’s comes from Dominic Grinstead. Dominic is the CEO at MetLife UK. Here he is:
Dominic Grinstead: How does a great salesperson become an exceptional salesperson? I think the first thing you have to do in life is adopt a little bit of humility. And salespeople, and I speak as a reformed salesperson, are not necessarily good at this trait. But you have to understand where your strengths are and where your weaknesses are, and where you’ve identified those weaknesses. Develop yourself or work with sales coaches or your sales leaders to address them. And there are very few skills in sales which can’t be developed. You may never be perfect at it, so if you’re not good at organization, you won’t necessarily be the most organized person on the planet ever, but you can improve from where you are. Likewise, if you find it hard to build questions, you might never be that great high court lawyer, but you can always improve your questioning skills. So I think the first step is to identify those development needs, have a plan, and start to develop yourself.
