Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Today I’ve got something a little more fun for you. My buddy, Tyler Lessard the VP of Marketing at Vidyard, posted this video in their brand new Sales Feed channel on LinkedIn and has agreed to allow me to use the audio from it here. There’s a little bit of language in this one if you’ve got young ears around, but I’m guessing you’re going to end up playing this tip more than once. Here it is:
Tyler Lessard: I don’t like taking cold calls. You think I like making them? You think I like interrupting your lunch only to get yelled at and hung up on like I’m selling duck cleaning services? You don’t want me to call next time, try using a fake phone number when filling out the forms on our website. Like everyone else.
I don’t have time to talk right now. I’m just going into a meeting. Oh, really? One of those weekly team meetings that starts right at 02:18 p.m. Tim? Maybe you could pop open your calendar to see if we could find 30 minutes for you to come on over here and help me clean up my office because my bullshit meter just exploded all over the place.
This email doesn’t seem very personalized. Well, guess what? It wasn’t. You think I got time to customize all of my emails when my boss was breathing down my neck to do 80 activities an hour? You want something personal? I see you went to Harvard. Turns out I didn’t. So give me a break.
Can we get a discount if we sign this quarter? Yeah, I’ll give you a discount. I’ll discount the fact that you’ve treated me like dirt throughout this entire sales process, even though you were the one who came to me for a solution. Or how about I discount the fact that you’ve just raised $80 million and we’re haggling over $200 a month? How about I throw in 60 hours of free implementation services and take it out of my salary? You should be ashamed.
Scott Ingram: For a link to the video, the new Sales Feed on LinkedIn, and to Josh Braun’s objection handling flashcards that prompted these humorous responses, just click over to DailySales.Tips/958 and we’ll have everything for you there.
Once you’ve done that. Be sure to come back tomorrow for another great sales tip. Thanks for listening and thanks for sharing this with your friends in sales. I appreciate it.
