Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. It’s Memorial Day in the US today and for many, this is the unofficial start of Summer. It certainly is in my house the last day of school for my girls was last Friday and for me, that means a number of potentially significant tweaks to my schedule and routines. I also try to think through the implications for my various sales efforts and will try to get in front of different summer vacation schedules both those of my clients and my own as well. Summer is a bit of a double-edged sword. Traditionally we do less business during the Summer than we do most other months as a lot of people take their foot off the gas to enjoy the warmer weather and to get out of the office. At the same time, there’s often reduced pressure on other projects and initiatives and that can create the space needed to start to build momentum if you work it right. In a lot of ways, I feel like the best approach is to go with the flow and ride the wave a bit. Taking a bit more of a laid back and relaxed approach can help. I also mentioned my daughters were out of school. Since I work from home that creates its own set of unique challenges for me personally, and I have to imagine that there are probably things that shift and change during this season in your life as well. The key for me is leveraging the mornings more fully. Typically everyone’s getting up a little later than usual and I can take advantage of those early morning hours knowing that there are going to be interruptions and other family demands later in the day to contend with and I want to be in a position where I can be a part of some of those things and not in all out “leave me alone, I’m working mode” 100% of the time.
