Scott Ingram: You’re listening to the Daily Sales Tips podcast and I’m your host, Scott Ingram. Full disclosure here, this is probably the most self-serving tip I’ve offered since starting the show. Hopefully, you value this show and the value it provides, and if you appreciate what we’re able to do here in about 5 minutes per day, imagine what we could do with 2 full days. Which brings us to today’s tip.
Calendar Q3 can be tough. For most people, it’s probably the slowest quarter of the year. The summer months of July, August, and September bring with it a ton of distractions and laziness. Hopefully, it’s earned laziness, but you’ve got to contend with people being out on vacation. The kids are at home, heck some of my clients have official summer schedules, I’m talking about you Minneapolis, where the entire company shuts down at Noon on Friday. Then you’ve typically got the start of the new school year to contend with as well. I’m not gonna lie, it’s tough!
Here’s my suggestion. Run a contest just for Q3, then send the winners to the Sales Success Summit here in Austin in October. See I told you this was self-serving, but done right it will also be incredibly valuable for you. The only thing you can do to combat the lackadaisical Q3 is to maintain focus and keep pushing. Even if you can’t close as many deals as you like you can focus on building a killer pipeline so you can have a great Q4.
I’ve already worked with a couple of other sales leaders on efforts like this and to make it even easier I’ve also created a team pack of tickets to the Sales Success Summit where you can 5 tickets for the price of 4.
Obviously, this tip is primarily for sales leaders, but if you’re carrying a quota like me you’ve still got ways that you can make this work for yourself. You could certainly share this idea with your sales leadership, encourage them to create a contest like this and then go win or create a challenge for yourself and present it to your boss suggesting that if you sell X amount or schedule X number of meetings your reward should be a ticket to the Summit.
This is an opportunity to learn from and connect with the best of the best. Every presenter who takes the stage at the Summit is a top 1% level performer who’s been on my Sales Success Stories podcast, and in a couple of days, I’ll also give you a bit of a preview of my own presentation at the Summit.
