This podcast is all about me, but you’re welcome to come along for the ride. In fact, I hope you will, and I hope you’ll help me make it even better than what I currently think is possible.
I love sales, and I have always looked for ways to improve myself and my results. I read books and articles, listen to podcasts and occasionally attend webinars and seminars. While I frequently find useful nuggets in that content, it always struck me that the source of virtually all of this content is some type of “sales expert” who hasn’t sold anything, except for themselves, in years; sometimes decades. Why is it that you never hear directly from the very best sales people who aren’t trying to sell you some type of sales solution or training program? What are the true sales rock-stars doing? Name a big company in your industry, or who you have a ton of respect for generally. Would you love to know what the best sellers in that organization are doing to be at the top? I know I would, and not just someone who got lucky and was in the right place at the right time, or who had massive success a year ago or five years ago. I’m talking about those individuals who are at the top of their game right now, and who didn’t just get there accidentally. I’m talking about the best in the business who are getting it done, doing it right, and delivering consistent results. They are the A+ players among A players.
The idea behind this podcast is to find those individuals, across a variety of different industries and different revenue generating roles and to dig deep. I’m a big fan of the Tim Ferriss show and the deep conversations that Tim has with what he describes as “world class performers.” He has very long conversations that get into the details, but they’re rarely boring. In fact, I may even borrow the tagline and describe this show as “deconstructing world class sales performers.” I’m less interested in isolated sales tips, strategies and techniques (not that I’m not interested in those), and more interested in how they pull it all together. What do they prioritize and why? How do they structure their day? What habits and routines are the key to their success? How do they motivate themselves and what do they believe that those who aren’t as successful don’t or vice versa?
For the sellers that I interview, I want this podcast to give them the recognition that they deserve. Sure, they likely get a good deal of recognition inside their organizations, and are more than likely one of, if not the highest paid individual in the company. Why is it that they and their stories aren’t as well-known as their company’s CEO or CMO? They should be, and hopefully, this podcast represents an opportunity to give back; to share their well-earned insights with the broader sales community. Think of it as sales mentoring at scale.
While this may be a very selfish project since its core is about me scratching my own itch. I’m excited about the idea of creating a community of like-minded people (like you?) who also have these questions. Whether you’re early in your sales career, or even just thinking about taking on your first sales role or a more seasoned pro who knows there’s always another level of performance and achievement. Thanks to the generous support of my friends at Influitive, we’ve created a VIP Community (Hub?) where you can connect with this tribe of sales achievers. This is a place where we can get to know you and what would help you the most. If you’re ready to engage in a meaningful way, we’d love to have you. Be willing to contribute and receive a lot of additional value beyond what you’ll find here on this site and in the podcast. To get your invitation to this free community, just subscribe to the email newsletter, and I’ll send all of the details.
Thanks for reading (and listening). Now go out there and work on your success story and I’ll be talking to you soon.
